Many people use rubbing alcohol as a disinfectant or for removing adhesive.

But there are numerous uses apart from disinfection that people don’t know. It can be even used in cosmetics!

1. Eliminate bed bugs

Bed bugs can be a serious issue to eliminate once you get it. But although you are especially careful, they are able to sneak into your home after a vacation or even by staying at an unhygienic house. Luckily rubbing alcohol can help you eliminate such nasty pests. Just fill a spraying bottle with some rubbing alcohol and generously spray it over the mattress and pillows. Because bed bugs can lay eggs, it is really important to do this process a couple of times in order to completely eliminate them.

2. Replace deodorant

If you forgot to take a deodorant while you went for a trip, don’t panic. Rubbing alcohol has the ability to kill bacteria that result in bad odor and it is easy to find in every first-aid equipment. However, use it just temporarily, since long exposure to rubbing alcohol can irritate the skin.

3. Prepare a cool pack at home

If you put alcohol in your freezer, it won’t transform into ice, but it will become a thick, cold mass. But, why is this important? Thanks to such property, you can use it to prepare a homemade cooling pad. Just pour one part alcohol and two parts water in a plastic bag that can be sealed. Remove as much air as you can before you place it in the freezer. The mixture will become thick after about an hour. You can use it as an ice pack to ease an injury or to cool down your lunch.

4. Eliminate lice

Rubbing alcohol is great for eliminating lice. Just fill a spraying bottle with rubbing alcohol and put a couple of drops lavender oil. Apply thig mixture to your hair and scalp . Thoroughly comb the hair to eliminate the dead lice. It is recommended to leave the used combs soak in this mixture for 1 hour to make sure you eliminate all the lice.

5. Clean the ears

Most people still utilize cotton swaps in order to clean the ears, but this is in fact dangerous since it buries the wax deeper into your ear canals. There is a much easier way to clean the ears: Combine rubbing alcohol and white vinegar in one cup. Submerge a cotton swap in this mix and put it in your ears. The ear wax will be eliminated on its own.

6. Clean nail polish

The typical nail polish removers often contain acetone, which can cause damage to your fingernails. You may also feel nauseous from their fumes. Rubbing alcohol is a possible alternative. It will probably take a little longer period of to fully remove the nail polish, but you won’t damage the nails with this process.

7. Prevent ingrown hairs

Ingrown hairs are the absolute worst. You shaved the armpits or your bikini line and now the whole area has red dots. That can change after you apply some rubbing alcohol on the skin. The alcohol will alleviate the irritation, making your skin look smooth again.

8. Clear the skin

Benzoyl peroxide is a typical ingredient that can be found in acne-fighting ointments and creams, however rubbing alcohol works just as good. Thanks to the powerful soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, it will not just disinfect the existing pimples, but also ease the surrounding skin and prevent occurrence of additional ones. Make sure to apply it only directly to the pimples because extended use may cause irritations.

9. Prevent cold sores

85% of all people are carriers of the virus herpes, but just a small number will experience its break out. If you have a painful outbreak, try applying 70% isopropyl alcohol on these spots. This will make your herpes sores disappear faster.

10. Efficient hand sanitizer

Rubbing alcohol is a great base ingredient for preparing a homemade hand sanitizer. Just combine 4 oz. of aloe vera, half a tbsp of isopropyl alcohol, and a couple of drops teatree oil and pour this mixture in a bottle. Here is a video of the instructions:
